How it works
Enter a current age (a whole number) and the calculator works backward from today's date to find which birth year that corresponds to. Because age alone doesn't reveal the exact birth date, there's an inherent ambiguity: depending on whether the person's birthday earlier this year has already passed, they could have been born in one of two different calendar years. The calculator handles this by returning both possible years along with the exact date range each one covers.
For example, checking this calculator on August 3, 2026 with a current age of 30 returns "Born in 1995 or 1996," with a range of August 3, 1995 to August 2, 1996. Anyone whose birthday falls in that roughly year-long window is currently 30 years old: if their birthday is on or before August 3, they were born in 1995, and if it falls after August 3 (through August 2 of the following year), they were born in 1996. Change the entered age by even one year and both the birth years and the date range shift forward or backward accordingly.
This tool narrows things down to a birth year and a date range, not an exact date, since age alone can't reveal the day or month someone was born. Why does it show two possible birth years?
Someone's age alone doesn't reveal whether their birthday has already passed this year, so the birth year could be one of two values depending on when in the year they were born.
How accurate is the birth year calculator?
It's exact given the age you provide, since it works from today's real calendar date, but it can only narrow the birth year down to one of two options and a date range, not a single exact date. To land on one specific birth year, you'd also need to know whether the birthday has passed yet this year.
What if I know the exact birthday, not just the age?

Can I use this for ages over 100?
Yes, the calculator accepts any age from 0 to 150, which comfortably covers the range of realistic human ages plus a margin for historical or record-checking research.
Why does the date range end one day before the following year's date?
Because the range describes every possible birthday that would make someone exactly the age you entered as of today. Someone born the day after that range ends wouldn't turn that age until tomorrow, so the range stops one day short to stay accurate to the day.
Is this useful for anything besides curiosity?
