How it works
Enter a pay amount and choose whether it's hourly, weekly, monthly, or annual, along with typical hours worked per week and paid weeks per year (52 for most full-time roles, fewer if you take unpaid time off). The calculator's first step is always to convert whatever you entered into an annual figure: hourly pay is multiplied by hours per week and then by paid weeks per year, weekly pay is multiplied by paid weeks per year, and monthly pay is multiplied by 12. From that single annual number, it works backward to fill in the other three pay periods, dividing by paid weeks per year for the weekly figure, by 12 for the monthly figure, and by total annual hours (hours per week times weeks per year) for the hourly figure.
For example, $25 an hour at 40 hours a week for 52 paid weeks converts to a $52,000 annual salary, $1,000 a week, and $4,333.33 a month. Notice the monthly figure isn't simply the weekly amount times 4, it's the annual total divided by 12, since a year has roughly 4.33 weeks per month on average, not an even 4. That's also why comparing a "per month" salary offer to a "per week" one requires converting both to the same annual basis first, which is exactly what this calculator does automatically.
Every number shown is gross pay, meaning before income tax, payroll tax, retirement contributions, health insurance premiums, or any other deductions come out. It also assumes a consistent hourly rate and schedule year-round with no overtime, bonuses, or commission factored in, so your actual take-home pay and total compensation will typically differ from these figures.
Frequently asked questions
How is annual salary calculated from an hourly wage?
It multiplies your hourly wage by the hours you work per week, then by the number of paid weeks per year you enter (52 for most full-time employees). For example, $25 an hour at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks comes out to a $52,000 annual salary.
Does this account for taxes?
No, all figures shown are gross pay before taxes and deductions like income tax, Social Security, Medicare, or retirement and insurance contributions. Your actual take-home pay will be lower than any of the numbers this calculator shows.
Why isn't my monthly pay just my weekly pay times 4?
Because a year has 52 weeks but only 12 months, and 52 divided by 12 is about 4.33, not an even 4. This calculator gets the monthly figure by dividing the annual total by 12 directly, which is more accurate than multiplying a weekly number by 4 and will run slightly higher.
I get paid every two weeks (biweekly), not weekly. How do I use this?
Take your biweekly paycheck amount and divide it by 2 to get a weekly figure, then enter that in the "Pay Amount" field with the period set to "Week." Biweekly pay schedules result in 26 paychecks a year, which averages out to the same weekly rate as a standard 52-week year.
How do I account for unpaid vacation or time off?
Lower the "Paid Weeks Per Year" field below 52 to reflect it. For example, if you take 2 unpaid weeks off a year, enter 50 instead of 52, since that field is specifically the number of weeks you're actually being paid for annual salary purposes.
Does this include overtime pay?
No, the calculator assumes every hour is paid at the same flat rate you enter. If you regularly work overtime hours paid at a higher rate, calculate your regular and overtime pay separately and combine them for a more accurate total, since this tool doesn't apply overtime multipliers automatically.
How can I use this to compare two job offers with different schedules?
Run each offer through the calculator separately with its own hours per week and pay rate, then compare the annual figures, since that puts both offers on the same basis regardless of whether one is quoted hourly and the other as a yearly salary. Just remember neither total includes benefits, bonuses, or taxes, which can meaningfully change which offer is actually better.
