Where this number comes from
Nothing fancy: your amount per order multiplied by how often you buy it, projected out over the number of years you pick. A $6 coffee every weekday adds up to about $1,560 a year, and a $15 takeout lunch a few times a week compounds fast too. This isn't a suggestion to quit either one, plenty of things worth spending on don't show up as a line item that feels big until you add it up. It's just satisfying, in a slightly horrifying way, to see the total.
