Why screen time adds up faster than you think
A few hours a day sounds small in the moment, but multiplied out it becomes a surprisingly large chunk of your total time. Four hours a day, a fairly typical average, comes out to roughly 28 hours a week, more than a full workday. Over a year that's over 1,000 hours, and projected across decades of adult life it can total years, not days, of cumulative screen time. None of this means screens are inherently a problem, work, communication, and plenty of good entertainment happen there too. It's just a scale most people never actually see laid out, since daily totals rarely get added up into weekly, yearly, or lifetime numbers the way this calculator does.
Hour-to-year conversions use standard calendar averages (7 days a week, about 30.4 days a month, 365.25 days a year).
Frequently asked questions
How is this calculated?
It multiplies your daily average hours by 7 for a weekly total, by roughly 30.4 for a monthly total, and by 365.25 for a yearly total. If you provide your age, it also projects that same daily average forward to age 80 to estimate a lifetime total.
Is all screen time "bad"?
Not at all, this calculator doesn't judge what the time is spent on. Work, reading, video calls with family, and entertainment all count as screen time equally here. The number is just a neutral stat to help you see the total, not a verdict on how you use it.
